Eastern Europe, the Balkan and the Caucasus are regions in a continuing state of development. These infant states are in a political and economical transition and are experiencing tense societal relationships. With this in mind there is also remains the issue concerning international relations - the choice between a course towards the East or the West. That is why these regions are a very interesting starting point for students from different backgrounds, to write their thesis about.
Alfred Mozer Stichting
The Alfred Mozer Stichting (AMS) is a foundation that supports the development of social democratic parties in Eastern, South Eastern Europe and the Caucasus through training seminars. In addition, the AMS (co)organises round table discussions on the political developments in the concerned countries.
Every year, a great number of very interesting theses is written connected to the regions in which the Alfred Mozer Stichting (AMS) is active. To stimulate this and to make these sources of valuable information more accessible, the AMS this year initiated its first AMS Thesis Award. The winner will be invited to take part in one of the AMS training sessions abroad. Furthermore, Eburon Academic Publishers will publish the winning thesis.
Who can contribute?
All students of Dutch institutions for Higher Education, who have successfully completed their Bachelor or Master thesis can apply for this award. The thesis has to be written in Dutch or in English and has to be linked with the AMS’s field of activity. This means that both a thematic as well as a geographical connection to the foundation is needed.
Possible keyords are:
social democracy, democratisation, political parties, civil society, human rights, minorities, economical transition, development of legal systems, enlargement of the European Union, European Neighbourhood Policy.
How will the contributions be judged?
All the contributions will be read and judged by a jury. The jury is composed of people with different backgrounds and years of experience in the work field of the AMS. The contributions will be judged on scientific quality and relevance to the foundation, but also on originality, applicability and readability.
How to submit your thesis
The contribution must be sent in digital form before 1 February 2007 on
ams@pvda.nl. Please also mention your name, address, discipline and the name of your thesis supervisor.
By participating in this thesis contest, the author grands Eburon Academic Publishers the exclusive right to exploit the printed version of the thesis. The copyright and responsibility for the contents of the thesis remains with the author. The winning author will receive layout instructions for the final publication. Eburon will register the ISBN, provides a cover design and determines the selling price. The author will receive a 10% royalty on the net sales, minus production costs and bookstore discounts.
