The purpose of this book is to provide insight into those elements of acoustics and aeronautics that are connected directly with the problem of aviation noise. It is intended as a textbook for a university course on aviation acoustics at an undergraduate level. The simplicity of presentation also lends itself to the book’s use as an instrument of self-study for the practicing of engineer. The contents of the book are a reflection of an annual course on aviation noise presented by the author to senior undergraduate students of aerospace engineering at Delft University of Technology.
The author, Gerrit J.J. Ruijgrok, is a professor of Aerospace Engineering at the Brussels Free University (VUB), and at the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands.
He is also the author of the book Elements of Airplane Performance. His educational and research tasks are concentrated on performance, propulsion and noise of aircrafts. He graduated at Delft University with a degree in aeronautic engineering.
