Maritime Studies (MAST) is an international journal devoted to maritime issues, produced by the Centre for Maritime Research (MARE) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It is a sequel to Maritime Anthropological Studies, which appeared between 1988 and 1993. MAST is a social science journal intended for scholars who are engaged in research on marine and coastal matters, from an academic or applied point of view.
The disciplines covered include anthropology, geography, sociology, political science, economics, law, and natural resource management.

Editorial policy
MAST welcomes articles, commentaries, research reports of work in progress, review essays, and book reviews on any aspect relevant to social scientific approaches to maritime studies.
Article submissions will be peer-reviewed anonymously by two referees. Manuscripts should conform to the requirements listed below.
Guidelines for contributors
1) Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to mare@marecentre.nl. For detailed instructions for authors, click here.
2) Acknowledgements should not be included in the footnotes but should appear as a separate paragraph following the main text.
3) Proofs should be carefully corrected and returned to the editors as directed (if page proofs are not returned on time, the editors will send their own corrected copy to the printer). Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted.
4) First authors will receive one complimentary copy of each issue in which their work appears, and a pdf file. Second authors will recive the pdf file only. Copyright to all published material is held by MAST. Additional copies may be purchased and should be ordered when an article is accepted for publication.
