This book deals with physical therapy for children with cerebral palsy from a functional approach. These children have motor impairments resulting from lesions of the brain arising in the early stages of development.

This thesis presents the extensive research on Doppler ultrasonography of the arterial and venous lung circulation in the normally developing human fetus and in the fetus at risk for lung hypoplasia. The results improve our understanding of fetal pulmonary hemodynamics under physiological conditions.

The aim of this thesis is to get insight in surgical aspects of the treatment of carcinoid patients, the role of products produced by the tumor and their vascular effects.

Niersteenvorming (nefrolithiasis) komt vrij veel voor in geïndustrialiseerde landen. Ongeveer 10% van de bevolking ontwikkelt een steen gedurende zijn of haar leven. Dit proefschrift gaat over de mogelijke betrokkenheid van niercellen bij het ontstaan van nierstenen.

Illness often hides inside a body. Physicians can make it visible by using medical imaging technologies. Some of those technologies also allow patients to have a live view into their own interior. Does such real-time imaging present the ultimate example of a transparent body? Or on the contrary, do technological images of a body that is normally invisible create a sense of alienation?
