Strategic behavior and regulatory styles in the Netherlands energy industry

Strategic behaviour is of all times. So is strategic behavior in network-based industries. Recent changes, however - many of them drastic and almost irreversible - such as the introduction of competition and the privatization of government-owned corporations, seems to have been the signal for exististing as well as new organizations in these industries to adopt an even more explicit strategic behaviour.

Although there is nothing wrong with that itself, some of this strategic behaviour aims to somehow eliminate direct opponents. Considerable attention has therefore been paid in recent years to this behavior in network-based industries.

This book presents an overview both of this strategic behavior already observed in the Netherlands energy industry and of potential future strategic behaviour in it. It also answers the question whether there is any link between strategic behaviour and the way ragulators operate in the industry.
